How many really great masterpieces, ideas, thoughts, and/or solutions to problems do you know about? Think about it and then think about this —
How many great masterpieces, ideas, thoughts, and/or solutions to problems don't you or humanity have any knowledge of?
Consider the people in your territory who are or may be in a position to buy what you are selling. If you don't know about them, does this hurt you? Does it hurt your goals or the profitability of your business? At the very least, you would have to admit that not knowing does not help you.Consider the other side of the coin. People, in the position to buy what you are selling, that don't know about you. Are they being hurt?
You have spent a great deal of time engaging in what you are selling and learning enough about what you are selling to become skilled in producing and/or finding what you are selling. Is the buyer being hurt by not knowing about you?
Skilled used here refers to, having mastered the details or techniques used in the execution and production of what you are selling. Skilled also implies having the aptitude and proficiency to meet or exceed the standards set or expected by any and all buyers of what you are selling. Thus, you are a professional. You produce a fine product on demand; not occasionally by some lucky circumstance.
After all, if some possible buyer of what you are selling does not know or have knowledge of you, it must not hurt him or her. Surely, it does not hurt you.
If you disagreed with, "What you don't know can't hurt you," then you will want to consider ways to give people, in your territory, knowledge about you and your what you are selling including your sales ability and services.
First you have to come up with the talent, skill and/or idea (something to sell). Then, once you possess it (or you can gain access to it), you have to let others know that you have it and, more important, that it's available to them. It doesn't make to much difference that you are a superior and talented business, if you don't let people know that you are, you're not going to maximize your profit.
Two possibilities exits:
- One, a person has knowledge of your existence and contacts you.
- Two, you have knowledge of their existence and you make contact with them.
This is where your website and other web 2.0 activities come in.
The purpose of these activities is to gain and record contacts or list prospects who have shown or are interested in you or what you have.
